- Halloween at Horseleap N.S.
The pupils of Horseleap surpassed themselves this year with their wonderful Halloween costumes! Congratulations to our two pupils who received awards for full attendance during September and October. Congratulations to Johnny on his retirement as caretaker of Horseleap N.S. after many years of service. Well done to all the pupils who participated in the Tag Rugby Blitz in Moate on Thursday.

 - Tag Rugby
Thank you to Avril from Midland Warriors who visited our school on Monday to begin our tag rugby sessions for this year. Mini rugby training takes place every Sunday at the new grounds in Moate. Contact Avril on the number below for more information.
 - The day the snakes came to school ...
Today we welcomed Dr. John Dunbar to our school. John is a zoologist and owner of the Midlands Bug and Reptile Zoo. He introduced us to a variety of creatures. Among them were pythons, tarantulas, millipedes, cockroaches, scorpions and geckos.
 - Welcome Back!
We arrived back to find the apples trees in our mini orchard abundant with fruit! Our school garden - exactly as we prepared it to be ready for us in Autumn! In the Senior Room, we made origami bookmarks to use during our daily DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time.
 - School Tour to Portlick Scout Camp
What a wonderful school tour we had on the shores of Lough Ree today! The children enjoyed a range of activities from kayaking to water slides, water fights to gladiator challenge, ziplining and climbing wall. The sun shone on us as we learned how to kayak, completed an obstacle course through the forest and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Portlick Scout Camp. Learning how to kayak Water fight!  - Summer Tag Rugby Blitz
Tag rugby team with Ms. Robinson Thank you so much to Michael and all at Midland Warriors for organising a very enjoyable tag rugby blitz in Moate on Friday, 13th June. Thanks to Ms. Robinson for all her tag rugby coaching and exercise during the year. Afterwards we had a takeaway from Supermacs to celebrate in the sun!
 - Sports Day 2025
What a wonderful day we had yesterday at Sports Day in Horseleap N.S. The day began with a variety of co-operative games and races under the guidance of Ms. Carey. The children played Time machine, Bring the frog across the pond, and Loggers amongst many more activities. Next, pupils did a relay clothes peg race and an orienteering challenge to find all the tourist attractions in Ireland that they had been learning about in Geography. After lunch, we had a variety of races - egg and spoon race, sack race, ladder race, wheelbarrow race and three legged race. The penultimate event was one of our favourites - the egg toss! Unfortunately a few pupils got egged this year! The winners were Logan and Leo and Molly and Eva. The last event was the cross bar challenge organised by Leo and won by James!  - Active Schools Week
Thank you to Gerry for coming to teach us the basics of hurling Horseleap NS celebrated Active Schools Week from 6th to 9th May and what a week we had! The weather was glorious all week so we were able to spend lots of time outdoors being active. Among the activities was a visit from Gerry Linnane to show us how to play hurling, an athletics session with Ms. Reid and a whole school obstacle course. The children participated in lots of cooperative games and activities during the week. They also used our re-organised walkway to enjoy mindful moments, puzzle over some riddles and learn some French. We also had a whole school game of rounders which they thoroughly enjoyed. On Friday, it was Skipping Takeover Day! The pupils showed off all the skipping tricks they had learned over four weeks at school.
 - Ferbane Bog Walk
Thank you to Criodán from Midlands Science who guided us through Ferbane Bog this morning. Criodán gave all the pupils a notebook to record all their observations. He showed them how to use swatches to distinguish the various trees, butterflies and dragon flies. The most exciting part was when he showed us how the drone worked. He sent the drone up into the sky and it took photographs of us! Thank you to Midlands Science for this lovely opportunity! A photograph captured by drone.  - A visit from the Gardaí
Thank you to Garda Niall and Garda Denis who visited 5th and 6th class today to talk about online safety. Afterwards the whole school got a chance to explore the Garda car and some of the equipment Gardaí use.
