In January, 3rd to 6th class created periscopes as part of our STEM project. Periscopes help us to see around corners and can be very useful. The children worked together in groups and used cardboard and mirrors to create the finished product. They had great fun testing them at the end.

In January, the Senior Room created beautiful images using wool.

Last Thursday, 14th December, we were delighted to have a visit from Paddy Madden, a heritage in schools expert. Throughout the day Paddy told us lots of stories and showed us lots of interesting displays about nature. Paddy showed us the different buds from various trees. Paddy showed us a wasp's nest! We got to hold some paper that wasps had made! We learned about the different categories of living things. We got an opportunity to look at centipedes and millipedes in the viewfinders. Paddy taught us about dinosaurs and showed us some real fossils!

On Wednesday last, our debating team participated in an online debate organised by Athlone Education Centre. The team proposed the motion 'Electric cars are the best way for countries to reduce their emissions.' Below you can see our three speakers to the right and our timekeeper and chairperson to the left. Well done to all pupils involved. They now go forward to propose the motion 'Sport always brings communities together' on 17th January.

On Friday 1st December, we had our first dress rehearsal for our Christmas musical 'Straw and Order'. The children are practising very hard for our performance on 15th December.

Well done to all the pupils involved in our Christmas show on 15th December. Molly and Mary performed some Christmas tunes on the piano first. Next some children from the Junior Room played 'Jingle Bells' on the tin whistle while the Senior Room played 'Silent Night.'. Then we presented our Christmas musical 'Straw and Order'. Finally we all sang 'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town'.
